Abstract

The growing logistics market and the ongoing urbanization in Switzerland and other countries has led to severe competition regarding space in urban areas. Land use strategies in urban areas should consider these challenges and provide approaches and instruments for securing and protecting space and infrastructure for logistics facilities. Positive planning should be part of such strategies. An important element of positive planning is a suitable approach and methodology to identify locations or surface areas which are suitable for logistics purposes. Between 2015 and 2018 a project has been carried out in Switzerland which developed and applied such a methodology. The approach and methodology developed was shown to be feasible and suitable. Stakeholder involvement was important to develop an accepted methodology and to reach acceptance of the results.
