Abstract
Due to environmental concerns and the depleted availability of petroleum resources, green and natural renewable materials have increasingly received much attention for different industrial applications. The incorporation of renewable resources in materials is a viable means to reduce environmental impact and support sustainable development in industry. Regarding these concerns, flame-retardant materials are not an exception. This paper discusses and highlights state-of-the-art approaches to designing novel flame-retardant materials and spurring future research, including development, processing, testing and utilization of these materials in a diverse range of products, as well as the promising prospects for applications. The emerging information will pave the way for further assessment and ultimately the identification and development of suitable flame-retardant materials for future utilization.
