TAK-003 dengue vaccine as a new tool to mitigate dengue in countries with a high disease burden
Annelies Wilder‐Smith
Abstract
Dengue, an arboviral disease of the tropics and subtropics, is caused by infection with one of four distinct serotypes of the dengue virus (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4).1 We have seen an exponential increase in dengue incidence over the past few decades, surpassing the growth rate of other communicable diseases, a trend anticipated to continue, fuelled by urbanisation with high population densities, global mobility, and climate change.2 Dengue incidence is concentrated in southeast and south Asia, with Latin America following closely.
