Large language models as models of human cognition
Michael C. Frank
Abstract
Can a large language model be used as a ‘cognitive model’, a scientific artifact that helps us understand the human mind? If LLMs can be made openly accessible to scientific investigation then they may provide a valuable model system for studying the emergence of language, reasoning, and other uniquely human behaviors.
