Abstract

Norepinephrine act as both neurotransmitter and hormones in the central neurological and cardiovascular systems of mammals. According to literature reports, standard methods for detecting NEP like spectrophotometry, electrochemistry, chemiluminescence, capillary electrophoresis and high-performance liquid chromatography etc. are expensive, time-consuming and have poor resolution especially in aqueous or biological systems. In light of this, we have fabricated the boron phosphorus graphene quantum dots (BPGQDs) nanosensor for the fluorometric detection of NEP in pure aqueous conditions. The designed BPGQDs were characterized by using UV–VIS absorption spectroscopy, FT-IR, PXRD, HR-TEM, SEM, EDS, AFM, XPS, Fluorescence spectroscopy and TCS-PC. The excitation wavelength of nanosensor was 340 nm and emission wavelength were 420nm, with the addition of NEP to the nanosensor the initial fluorescence intensity gets quenched and the quenching mechanism was inner filter effect. A smartphone-based sensor for the detection of NEP using BPGQDs was also developed. Our experimental results also prove with density functional theory by calculating HOMO, LUMO energy, optimization geometry and overall energy of the system. The fabricated sensor revealed high selectivity towards NEP with low limit of detection (LOD) 16.2 nM and Limit of quantification was 49 nM. Further the synthesized sensor was also applied for real time analysis of NEP in human urine samples.
