How to commercialize solid-state batteries: a perspective from solid electrolytes

Abstract

Solid-state batteries with solid electrolytes are promising for energy storage systems of next generation, owing to the potential to achieve high energy density and superior safety. Extensive researches on solid electrolytes, including structure design, preparation techniques, ionic conducting mechanisms, etc., have been conducted. Though much progress has been made, the massive production of solid electrolytes is still seriously lagging behind, due to significant deviation of lab conditions from the industry scale production. This article raises some critical issues related to the practical applications of solid electrolytes, including solid inorganic and polymer electrolytes, with an aim to promote the commercialization of solid-state batteries.
