Abstract
assays showed that these elderly-type fecal metabolites suppressed the expression of genes related to tight junctions in normal colonic epithelial cells and induced the expression of inflammatory cytokines in colon cancer cells. These findings suggest that metabolites produced by the aged gut microbiota could contribute to intestinal and systemic homeostasis and could be targeted for preventing aging-associated diseases.
