Abstract

Presently, power quality in the grid has become essential due to an increase in unpredictable connection and disconnection of various non-linear loads to/from the distribution line. Lack of quality power causes power production losses, equipment damage, and communication lines interference. So, a rise in power quality issues requires concentration. Although there are many devices for improving power quality, but hybrid shunt active power filters are frequently utilized because of their excellent efficiency and capability of handling large amount of power. This paper analyze power system’s power quality improvement with shunt passive power filter (SPPF), shunt active power filter (SAPF) and hybrid shunt active power filter using (HSAPF) MATLAB/SIMULINK software. PPF removes lower order harmonics; APF removes higher order harmonics where as hybrid shunt active power filter removes both lower as well as higher order harmonics. In this paper, instantaneous active & reactive (p-q) power theory has been used for producing reference current for the HSAPF and for producing gate pulses for the filter, hysteresis current control technique has been used.
