Abstract

a change in colour or emission. Recently (since 2006), carbon nanoparticles, which are a "new class" of nanostructures based on carbon atoms, have been widely used in sensing applications due to their intriguing optical properties. The scientific literature on this topic started from 2006 and a progressive increase in the corresponding number of publications has been observed. This review summarises the application of carbon nanoparticles in the sensing field, focusing on chemical and ion sensing.
