Abstract

This foundational note proposes Mediation Quotient (MQ) as a candidate cognitive construct beyond conventional Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ). MQ is defined as agent-level mediation capacity under irreversible distinction collapse: the ability to preserve coherent distinguishability across non-invertible commit-steps without premature closure, fragmentation, or oversimplification. The proposal is grounded in the CT architecture τ₀ → QIB → IB → Distinguishable → Adjacency → Space, where coherent structure emerges through mediated irreversible distinction rather than from primitive static objects. Within this framing, cognition is interpreted as a process of stabilizing distinguishability and preserving meaningful adjacency under incomplete admissibility. The note distinguishes MQ from IQ and EQ, introduces candidate axioms and operational indicators, relates MQ to the Irreversible Bit architecture, and frames the construct as speculative but potentially formalizable. The purpose is not to claim psychometric validation, but to identify a missing dimension of cognition relevant to ambiguity tolerance, interdisciplinary synthesis, delayed closure, systems thinking, theoretical creativity, and coherence preservation under uncertainty.Version note: v0.2 corrects the notation QIB to QB throughout. In v0.1, QIB was used as a notation error. The intended term is QB, denoting the quantum-bit stage prior to irreversible-bit commitment. The conceptual architecture is unchanged.
