Abstract

A two-dimensional simulation was carried out on DC glow discharge by the simulation program Comsol Multiphysics, where a reactive gas, which is xenon gas, was used. This type of discharge is very important in various different fields. The particle flux is approximated using a drift-diffusion approximation based on a fluid description of ions and excited neutral species.in this paper, the effect of the voltage applied to the discharge on the properties of the resulting plasma was studied. It was found that the density of electrons and the temperature of electrons as well as the density of ions will increase with increasing voltage. It was also found that the plasma frequency will increase with increasing voltage, while the Debye length decreases with increasing voltage.
