Abstract

Metal-organic framework materials (MOFs) are new multifunctional nanomaterials that find application in the biomedical field. Their distinctiveness lies in their porosity, diverse topologies, and large, specific surface areas. Among the various MOFs reported, MOF-74 constitutes an assorted class with honeycomb-like architectures with pore sizes of around 12 nm created by the interaction of divalent metal ions with 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid. In the presented review, recent progress in the design and development of MOF-74 has been taken into account, and its biomedical applications as a detection probe and in antibacterial fields, have been briefly described and analyzed. This is because the MOF-74 series offer attractive research prospects and significance in varied research fields. However, there are sporadic reports on MOF-74 synthesized by employing metal cations such as Mn, Co, Fe, etc., and it is anticipated that extensive exploration of the MOF-74 series will be executed in the future.
