Abstract
Hospital dentistry can be understood as the practice of activities that contribute to improving the health and quality of life of hospitalized patients. The carelessness with oral health can cause damage to the individual's general health, worsening the clinical condition and may affect other organs, thus increasing the hospitalization period. The aim of the study was to perform a literature review and present the importance of the role of the dental surgeon in the multidisciplinary team in a hospital environment and the relationship between the dental surgeon's care and the general improvement in the quality of life of hospitalized patients. Methodology: Systematic review through data collection in PubMEd, SciELO and Bireme databases. Conclusion, the presence of the dentist in the hospital environment within ICUs and ICUs is extremely important for the promotion and prevention of oral health, and this becomes more relevant when it comes to hospitalized patients.
