Abstract

Currently, permanent magnets with high magnetic energy and low cost are readily available. It makes the design of compact and high torque density BLDC (Brushless DC) motors for Electric vehicles much more accessible. This paper covers the design and analysis of an InWheel Motor for an Electric Vehicle, which uses independent four-wheel drives. The designed motor is a high-speed motor with a compact size. For the design, the calculation of requirements of the application is developed and then different design parameters are calculated. Using these data, a basic design is made with RMxprt, and then Maxwell 2D design is created from RMxprt design, which is used in the analysis of the results.
