Abstract

With the constant development of technology and the growing interest of students in its application, Extended Reality (XR) expands the opportunities for students from various disciplines to stimulate their creativity and innovation in innovative ways in education. In this sense, the purpose of this research was to analyse the current scientific literature to assess the opportunities offered by XR, which encompasses Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality, in education. The study was developed following the methodology supported by the PRISMA statement, retrieving scientific literature from Web of Science, Scopus, ERIC, PsycINFO, British Education Index and Google Scholar. The analysis of the studies reveals that XR has great potential to enhance teaching and learning in various disciplines. The results indicate that XR can offer immersive and highly interactive learning experiences that can improve understanding of complex concepts and increase knowledge retention. In addition, it has been observed that XR can adapt to different learning styles and provide personalised learning opportunities. However, significant challenges are identified, such as accessibility and costs associated with its implementation in educational settings. Therefore, the need for further research to fully understand the long-term impact of XR on learning and skills development is highlighted.
