Design, Fabrication And Testing A Heat Exchanger As A Student Project
Mike Mavromihales, Keith Sherwin
Abstract
The design and fabrication testing of a heat exchanger for the final year dsign project for undergraduate engineering students was discussed. The design was open-ended and the project reflect it by allowing a wide range of geometries. The two approaches to design heat exchangers were mean temperature difference (MTD) or effective-number of transfer units (ETU). It was observed that the lateral pitch of the tubes needs to be minimized in order to increase the air-side velocity between the tubes.
