Increasing the Crack Resistance of Materials by Means of Laser Shock Processing

Abstract
A finite-element method is proposed for predicting crack initiation and development when laser shock processing are applied to materials with linear and V-shaped cracks. The optimal shock-wave treatment for minimal speed of crack propagation is determined.
