The Importance of Data Synchronization in Multiboard Acquisition Systems
Giuseppe Coviello, Gianfranco Avitabile, Antonello Florio
Abstract
The paper experimentally demonstrates the need and the importance to have a synchronization algorithm in the receiver section of each unit in a complex multi-board sensing system designed for off-line monitoring of biometric traces. In particular, the influence of the delay introduced by the receiver while processing synchronizing messages is evaluated. The sensor network is assumed to have a star topology with a single central node that acts also as a time coordinator. Experimental data show that even in a simple scenario, the synchronization strategies adopted to reduce receiving times have a significant impact on overall performance and instrument effectiveness.
