Abstract

This paper proposes a modular single-stage EV on-board chargers without electrolytic capacitor that is available with single-phase and three-phase grid. For three-phase input, the proposed EV on-board charger is capable of DC charging in essence. Battery charging current ensures DC by an integrated power decoupling circuit for single-phase input, even with the elimination of electrolytic capacitors. Moreover, due to its current-fed nature, the proposed pre-determined adaptive duty cycle adjustment is more suitable for wide voltage variation with one control variables, which enlarges the ZVS range. A 11kW EV charger prototype with 97.01% efficiency and power density of 5.25 kW/L (86.1 W/in 3 ) is built to verify the theoretical claims.
