Abstract
This chapter presents a case study of the training programmes provided for liaison officers interpreting for the Chinese Military Utility Helicopter Unit deployed in Sudan from August 2017 to August 2018. Translation and interpreting play a critical role in global United Nations peacekeeping operations, that should never be underestimated. The People’s Republic of China, since being founded in 1949, has contributed significantly to world peace and development due to its active participation in UN PKOs. Since 2003, the armed conflict between two rebel groups from Sudan’s western region of Darfur and the Sudanese government has drawn the country into intercommunal clashes to gain control over land, water, livestock and mineral resources and, which led to continuous violence against civilians, banditry and criminal activities exacerbated by the proliferation of arms. Ongoing training activities are undertaken during duty assignment, subsequent to induction at headquarters or in a peacekeeping mission.
