Abstract

Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) systems offer the possibility of long-period hydrogen storage without losses. PGM-based catalysts have been extensively studied for their use in the LOHC hydrogenation (hydrogen storage) and also in dehydrogenation (hydrogen production) reactions. However, during the dehydrogenation a high PGM/LOHC ratio is necessary to achieve significant conversions. In this work, the influence of non-noble metal (Co and Ni) incorporation over Pt-based catalyst with low metal content (0.5 wt% Pt) was studied. It has been demonstrated that Pt–Co and Pt–Ni interactions increase for lower non noble metal contents, which result in higher bimetallic performance in dehydrogenation. The addition of 0.5 wt% Co resulted to increase the dehydrogenation productivity, while the Ni incorporation did not improve the performance of the monometallic Pt catalysts.
