Electric Vehicle Cell Balancing using Single and Multi tiered Switched Capacitor
Rituparna Paul, S. Sreejith
Abstract
This paper deals with the active cell balancing of Electric Vehicle(EV) cells employing single, multi-tier switched capacitor circuits. In EV’s, the series and parallel connected battery cells may have difference in voltage level and state of charge due to internal impedance and other issues. This has a notable effect on the battery life. Balancing the voltage in cells is very essential to maintain the life of battery. Employing passive balancing in battery results in energy losses. In this paper, active balancing technique employing capacitors which reduces the balancing time and energy losses is discussed. The discussions are carried out under variable SOC values.
