The research sample consists of manufacturing companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares market. Machine learning methods are employed. The heterogenicity analysis reveals that sample companies can be categorised into two types. Additionally, decision tree analysis indicates that in intelligent enterprises, the impact of AI adoption degree on digital technology innovation is complex, while the absorbing abilitypositively influences digital technology innovation. In flexible enterprises, AI adoption degree, industry concentration, and absorbing ability all have a positive impact.
