Abstract

Superhydrophobic surfaces have attracted significant attention because of their broad range of fascinating applications. The issue of poor mechanical stability , nevertheless, severely restricts its practical applicability. In this review, based on the wetting mechanisms and failure modes of superhydrophobic surfaces, it is quoted that the construction of exceptionally stable superhydrophobic materials can be approached from three different perspectives, including structural design, interfacial reinforcement, and self-healing. From the perspective of multi-strategy design and enhancement, the design strategies, enhancement methods, and characterization tools for robust superhydrophobicity are introduced in detail, along with the corresponding insights. Eventually, the development, current status, and future prospects of robust superhydrophobicity are also expounded upon. This review can serve as an inspiration for the design and construction of mechanical stability superhydrophobic surface, stimulating the development and practical application of superhydrophobic surfaces.
