Abstract

The structures and components pressed into marine service are exposed to high stresses and impact forces such as wind, wave, and tidal energy. Additionally, they encounter aggressive environmental conditions during their service period even if not immersed in saline water but being positioned in the splash zone. The marine industry in recent few decades has expressed its willingness to use composites for a wide assortment of parts. This review paper amalgamates the history of marine composites, importance of marine composites, processing techniques of marine composites, proven composite-based materials for hull, and the life cycle analysis and recyclability choices for marine composites.
