Abstract

This article presents a comprehensive overview and critical analysis of the many applications of microwave photonic (MWP) techniques and functionalities within the domain of optical fiber (OP) sensors. The study aims to provide an in-depth examination of the utilization of microwave photonic technologies in enhancing the performance and capabilities of optical fiber sensors. Through an examination of existing literature and research findings, this review seeks to shed light on the potential benefits. The review focuses on recent advancements in the field. We offer experimental approaches that can be employed for the characterization of these systems, along with the utilization of two unique microwave photonic technologies in various applications. The article elucidates the methods by which high-resolution discrete and quasi-distributed optical sensing functions can be attained. Research that will be done in the future also includes emphasis added.
