Abstract

Short-term multi-product production planning strongly depends on manifold considerations which can be related to backlog production, product-type prioritization, machine capacity, and set-ups. Different manufacturing systems conditions may lead to different objectives. In this context, it is rather difficult to define a-priori optimal production plans. This paper presents an effective approach for short-term production planning of multi-product systems based on the integration of a Digital Twin and a multi-objective optimization method. The proposed approach has been implemented in a real industrial case of the railway sector. Numerical results show that useful insights can be inferred from the proposed methodology.
