Abstract

The vehicle energy efficiency cannot be assessed without determining the energy costs for performing transport work. In operation, the vehicle transport work is estimated by the increment in the freight mass over the distance traveled, and the fuel consumption estimates the energy requirement. These indicators do not determine the vehicle energy efficiency in the transport process. In this article, vehicle energy efficiency is defined as the ratio of the mechanical work performed by the vehicle to the potential energy of the energy source.Based on the analysis of the results of computational and experimental studies, a method is proposed for assessing the vehicle energy efficiency with an internal combustion engine on a driving cycle.
