Abstract

Multi-beam joint communication and radar (JCR) activates communication beam and sensing beam simultaneously to satisfy both communication and sensing requirements, where the sensing beam is supposed to scan a wide sensing field of view for target detection. However, the sensing beam with time-varying directions may cause severe interference on communication, especially in non-line-of-sight (NLoS) scenario. To address this problem, we propose a multi-beam JCR interference reduction methodology. Firstly, the communication receiver (CRx) utilizes the radar spreading sequences to estimate and eliminate the interference. Then, the transmitter adjusts the beamforming design according to CRx estimation to obtain higher communication beamforming gain. Our proposed methodology could improve the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) at CRx without the sacrifice of radar detection ability. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme compared to its existing multi-beam JCR counterpart.
