Blind CFO Estimator for OTFS Systems in Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communications

Abstract
This letter proposes a blind carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimator for orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) systems in vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. Based on the property of the signal power in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain being affected by the CFO, the estimator minimizes the difference between the received signal power and the average channel power in the DD domain to achieve estimation. Moreover, the cost function design is theoretically justified as it optimizes performance by balancing the impact of channel gain on the received signal in the DD domain. According to simulation results, the proposed estimator is better suited to work in V2I communications than previous estimators.
