Evolving Professionalism in the AI Era: Implementing Generative AI in Physical Education
Yongjin Lee, Dong-Ho Kim
Abstract
This article explores the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools—Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude—in physical education (PE) and examines the implications for future teaching practices and teacher professionalism. With technology advancing rapidly, particularly in AI, its impact on various sectors, including education, is profound. A health and exercise unit was developed and implemented for ninth-grade students, and generative AI was adopted throughout the entire process for content generation, personalized learning, and critical-thinking assistance. The benefits of using AI include the expansibility of skills and knowledge, efficiency in summarizing and presenting diverse information, and individualized learning through tailored feedback. While generative AI offers substantial educational benefits, it should complement, not replace, the essential human elements of teaching. Ongoing research and adaptation are crucial to maximizing AI’s potential while preserving critical educational values.
