Ethics codes for interpreters and translators

Abstract
This chapter explores ethics codes in translation and interpreting. Ethics codes refer to professional guidelines presented in written form in a code of ethics or conduct, or in a set of standards of practice. These documents depict professional practices and ideologies but are also intended to shape the expectations. We explore this topic defining these documents, presenting a typology of texts and their evolution over time, explaining their main contents and reviewing main topics and research issues around ethics codes in the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies.
