Dual Band Circular Patch Coplaner Microstrip Patch Antenna for X band and Ku band Applications

Abstract

In this paper, design of a circular shaped microstrip patch antenna for X band and Ku band application is analyzed. The antenna proposed in this paper is of 40 X 40 mm and placed over dielectric substrate FR4 of thickness 1.56 mm having dielectric constant of 4.4. This antenna is a coplanar patch antenna in which the ground plane is coplanar with the patch. The antenna shows working on two frequencies of 9.6 and 13.6 GHz which lies in Ku and X band respectively. The return loss obtained is around −35 dB and −32 dB for the two resonant frequencies. The gain is also simulated with frequency with a gain of around 5–6 dB for both the frequencies. The proposed antenna is designed, optimized and analyzed with CST simulator. The radiation pattern curves are also shown for the dual band frequencies.
