Abstract

In this chapter, load frequency control (LFC) scheme has been adopted to control the frequency oscillation in single-area wind electric power system added with fuel cell (FC) and battery energy storage system (BESS). To perform the LFC, a proportional–integral–derivative (PID) regulator is implemented as auxiliary controller. Ant colony optimization (ACO) technique is utilized to acquire optimal controller gain parameters of the PID controller. The proposed ACO technique-optimized PID controller performance is compared with conventional method and particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique-based PID controller results. The suggested optimization technique-based controller performs better than other method-based controller (PSO and conventional PID) in different time domain specification parameters (settling time, peak over and under shoot).
