Abstract

A nanocrystalline Co 9 S 8 (pre)catalyst derived from a novel {Co II S 4 } complex is reported for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and selective biomass valorization. During OER, Co 9 S 8 reconstructs completely into a CoOOH active phase via S-leaching.
