Abstract

Increasing the ecological validity of subjective laboratory experiments is still an open problem for the Quality of Experience research community. To contribute to this target, we have designed a subjective experiment based on a five-minute mixed reality escape room game, and we have conducted the experiment in an uncontrolled environment outside the lab. Our experiment addresses the main dimensions of ecological validity (stimulus, response, and setting) while still getting precision level similar to a lab trial, at the cost of reducing the number of responses to measure and their potential dynamic range.
