Abstract This chapter discusses classical and quantum correlation functions and the use of harmonic representations of thermal environments. (1) Time correlation functions in stationary systems. (2) Simple examples (the diffusion coefficient, golden rule rates). (3) Classical time correlation functions. (4) Quantum time-correlation functions. (5) Harmonic reservoir (classical bath, the spectral density, quantum bath, instantaneous normal modes).
