Abstract

The importance of the Love's condition for inverse equivalent-source approaches for metasurface design is clarified and formalized herein. A review of important concepts is provided to show that the enforcement of Love's condition is necessary to obtain Maxwellian fields which are then used to obtain the metasurface parameters. We clarify that this enforcement is not only necessary for reflectionless metasurfaces, but also necessary to obtain a desired reflection all the while maintaining the correct field transformation.
