Abstract

At its June session, held virtually owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the FAO Conference endorsed the Strategic Framework 2022–31. The report focuses on supporting transformation to achieve more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind—in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The four ‘betters’ identified in the framework should be addressed through a food systems approach, with a balance of the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of sustainable development, within the framework of the FAO’s mandate. The conference also endorsed the creation of a Sub-Committee on Livestock under the FAO Committee on Agriculture (COAG). The decision to establish this body was taken last year, in principle, by COAG to advise it on policy and technical programs and activities needed to optimize the contribution of livestock in food security and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, and poverty alleviation.
