Abstract

Electric vehicles became an alternate for internal combustion engines in transport sector. Countries all over the world promotes electric vehicle over internal combustion engines due to depleting fossil fuels and zero emission vehicle. However, to expand electric vehicle usage there is a need of reliable fast charging infrastructures for EV charging. These fast charging stations have great impact on the utility grid due to the power electronic converters present in it. The utility grid suffers with high harmonics, poor voltage profile and affect overall power quality of the network. In this paper, the various impacts of electric vehicle charging station on grid is analysed based on harmonic level, voltage instability, and transformer overloading using MATLAB Simulink. In addition, the techniques available to overcome the negative impact of charging station are discussed.
