AOA-Based BLE Localization with Carrier Frequency Offset Mitigation

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a high accuracy angle of arrival (AOA) estimation algorithm for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) localization. Traditional algorithms often concentrate on mitigating the measurement noise caused by BLE hardware deficiencies. On the contrary, our algorithm takes the carrier frequency offset (CFO) into account, we characterize how the CFO impact the BLE localization performance and derive the localization error bound. We then develop a Maximum Likelihood (ML) based weighted iterative algorithm to jointly estimate the CFO and AOA from the received signal. Finally, a numerical simulation and an experimental platform are established to verify the feasibility of our algorithm.
