Abstract

A conventional parallel cross feed flow multi-effect desalination plant was simulated and optimized by the use of multi-goal algorithm MATLAB language programming together with engineering equation solver. An analysis of the overall performance of the plant was executed. A new design of solar desalination plant inclusive of solar parabolic collectors, steam generator, and MED unit has been proposed to commute the conventional plant. Further, an implementing was carried out on the subject of oblique steam production true more than one thermal oil which include THERMINOL VP1, THERMINOL 66, THERMINOL 59, THERMINOL SP, THERMINOL 55 and DOWTHERM A in addition to water. Via the simulation, it became clear that THERMINOL VP1 had 1.025% greater desalinated water than others. Additionally, the operation cost of distillate production by the usage of mazut or natural gas is a lot extra than using solar energy.
