Abstract
The sustainable development of plug-in and full electric vehicles and portable electronic devices is impossible without solving the problem of limited cobalt resources and their high prices. Currently, leading battery manufacturers are looking for feasible alternatives to reduce cobalt dependency. In this regard, alternative solutions and shifts to new Co-free chemistries with a high energy density are being extensively explored. Herein, we provide a short overview of the recent progress concerning Co-free high energy density cathode materials for rechargeable LIBs. The main types of possible Co-free materials and future developments are summarized in this Focus Review.
