Motivational factors influencing farming practices in northern Ghana

Abstract

Highlights• We analysed farmer preferences for Sustainable Intensification Practices (SIPs) in northern Ghana.• Factor analysis identified three factors of motivations and impediments to adoption of SIPs.• Motivational factors were denoted personal satisfaction, eco-diversity, and eco-efficiency.• Impediment factors were uncertainty, absence of social support, and resource constraints.• Motivational factors and other socioeconomic variables influenced decisions to adopt SIPs.
