Abstract

Renewable energy sources are reliable and plentiful. They are potentially available for free of cost and are effective if the energy conversion system is improved. Among all other renewable energy sources, solar energy is one of the best nonconventional energy sources. In this proposed model solar energy is used which is one of the clean energies available. This paper describes the 600W quadratic DC-DC buck-boost converter based solar standalone system with Maximum Power Point Tracker(MPPT). The Quadratic Buck - Boost Converter (QBBC) provides a wide range of conversion ratio as its voltage ratio is quadratic dependent. This is equivalent to two cascade connection of traditional Buck and Buck-Boost DC-DC converters with two switches. Whereas QBBC uses a single power electronic switch to obtain the same quadratic voltage ratio. The solar system is modeled with QBBC, Cascaded Buck and Buck-Boost Converter, Single Buck -boost converter. The comparative analysis between the DC-DC converters, based on switching losses, efficiency etc., are discussed. Designing and Simulation studies are done through MATLAB/Simulink.
