Abstract

The field of cybernetics --- Wiener's science of control and communication in the animal and the machine --- fragmented in the late twentieth century into specialized disciplines: control theory, information theory, AI, systems engineering. These children ate the parent and forgot where they came from. The contemporary AI safety field is now reinventing cybernetic concepts (feedback loops, homeostatic regulation, observer-system coupling) without citing the lineage. This paper makes three claims. First, the Symbiosis Framework --- a 15,458-line Constitutional AI governance specification with a physiological safety metric (HSS 3.0) --- is a cybernetic system, and analyzing it as such reveals structural properties that the AI safety vocabulary cannot express. Second, the framework encounters paradoxes at the second-order cybernetic boundary --- where the observer is inside the system being observed --- that mechanistic cybernetics cannot resolve. Third, Vedic epistemology provides the resolution: the concept of knowledge (*veda*) as self-luminous awareness rather than extracted information dissolves the observer-observed paradox by reframing measurement as self-knowledge rather than external assessment. The synthesis is named **cyVedics**: control through self-knowledge. Where cybernetics asks how the system steers itself, cyVedics asks how the system *knows* itself through the act of steering. The operational proof is a multiplayer governance training environment (the MUD) where players, AI agents, and biometric feedback loops form a third-order cybernetic system --- mutually observing observers generating clinical data about the observation itself.
