Abstract

Deploying the reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) in wireless networks is getting tremendous attention due to its potential to provide alternative propagation paths for high-frequency signals and mitigate the impact of blockage and penetration losses. In this letter, we introduce the intelligent surface selection while considering a vehicular network scenario. Similar to the well-studied relay selection, we investigate the possibility of applying the selection concept to RIS, which enables the transmitter to select the best RIS among multiple surfaces. As evaluation metrics to investigate the performance of our scheme, we derive the ergodic capacity and the average symbol error probability (SEP). Moreover, we investigate the outage probability using Monte Carlo simulation.
