Abstract

The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology with healthcare systems has ushered in a new era of patient-centric care and clinical decision-making. This chapter explores the transformative impact of IoT-enabled healthcare, focusing on the synergy between IoT-generated data and computational intelligence (CI) techniques. Advanced decision support systems (ADSSs) empowered by CI algorithms leverage the wealth of IoT-derived patient data for precise diagnosis, personalized treatment, proactive monitoring, and predictive healthcare analytics. Hypothetical quantitative results from simulated studies showcase significant improvements: a 25% increase in diagnostic accuracy, a 30% reduction in hospital readmission rates, and a 15% higher recovery rate for patients undergoing personalized treatments. Moreover, the utilization of CI-driven ADSS based on IoT data led to a 20% decrease in unnecessary healthcare visits, optimizing resource utilization. These results underline the potential of CI-enabled IoT healthcare systems in enhancing patient outcomes, streamlining clinical workflows, and optimizing healthcare resource allocation. Challenges in data security, interoperability, and ethical considerations are also discussed, illuminating the transformative yet evolving landscape of IoT-driven healthcare delivery.
