Abstract

Current Source Converters (CSC) have been applied in many areas because of their unique advantages. Back-to-back current source converter is one of the typical topologies for AC motor drives. When using a non-isolated solution, common-mode current problems can easily affect the operation of the system and reduce component reliability. This paper proposes an algorithm using five- segment space vector modulation to reduce common-mode voltage and common-mode current. The core idea of the proposed method is optimizing the vector selection and sequence in the back-to-back current source converter to obtain the minimum common mode voltage. Compared with the traditional method, this method can finally reduce the requirement of common mode impedance in the converter system. Experimental results are provided in this paper to validate the performance of the proposed method, showing that the common mode current can be reduced with the proposed method.
