Abstract
The outlook of energy storage in the large-scale entrained flow coal gasification is proposed. The electricity and heat resources provided by renewable energy can be stored as chemical or physical energy in pulverized coal preparation, gasification process, product storage, and H2 energy storage combined with water electrolysis in the large-scale coal gasification process, to realize the integration and development of renewable energy, energy storage and large-scale coal gasification technology. Besides, we analyzed the scale of energy storage generated by a large-scale entrained flow coal gasification unit for 1 million tons of methanol per year, and the scale of energy storage combined with water electrolysis for hydrogen production, as well as the carbon dioxide emission reduction. For a traditional entrained flow coal gasification, the energy storage scale is about 70.6 MW while combining with water electrolysis for H2 production and methanol synthesis the scale increased to 770.2 MW. A large-scale energy storage plant can be potentially combined in the large-scale entrained flow coal gasification. Finally, the view of combining energy storage with other industries is put forward as well.
